Our First Competition

This past weekend was another first for us - our first figure skating competition. We decided to venture into the world of skating competitions slowly, doing just the Boise Figure Skating Club Competition this year. We didn't know what to expect exactly, it being the first time. It was pretty fun to watch it all (although Cecily disagreed, as you can see from her picture LOL) and the girls gained a lot from the experience. It's such an expensive sport, but I can see how fun it would be to get to travel around to the various competitions that are offered all over the Northwest. We'll have to see what the future holds.

Another Kindergarten Behind Us

We've now graduated three kids from kindergarten - only three more to go LOL. Generally I'm not real emotional about school-related stuff, but graduating from kindergarten is a big deal. It signifies that the "trial" period of school is behind you and you are ready to go on to be a big kid that eats lunch at school and spends all day there. Ian had kind of a slow start at kindergarten, but once he got the hang of it he really blossomed. He's reading decently and hopefully we can continue that progress over the summer. The social interaction with other kids his age has been good too. Congratulations Ian, our Kindy graduate!

My Little Consumers

Normally I manage to avoid the advertising hype when it comes to childrens' products, but we've finally been suckered in. The kids were DESPERATE for Pillow Pets. They begged and begged. So, we broke down and ordered one for Cecily and one for Colin for their birthdays (actually, they came from Grandma and Grandpa). Then we decided we'd better get one for Hero and give it to her as an early birthday gift so that she could bring it on our drive to Wisconsin. And then we thought that it'd just be best to make sure everyone got one for the trip. So, here we are five Pillow Pets later, and no, we aren't going to talk about how much they cost LOL. Colin picked a frog, Ian wanted dolphin, Cecily has a bunny, Allegra received a unicorn, and Hero got a whale.

Birthday Party: Take Two

It's been a veritable feast of birthday cake around here. For the second Sunday in a row we had a birthday bash, this time for Colin's 3rd. The weather wasn't quite as cooperative this go-round but it did manage to stay not raining for the actual party so we could do our barbeque outside. Colin was in a funky mood since he hadn't slept well the night before. He actually fell asleep on the office sofa right before his party started and I had to wake him up so that the guest of honor was present. He loved his firetruck cake and was super enthusiastic about all his presents including firetruck blanket and pillow, construction blanket, outfit, and pajamas, books, a dinosaur, a Pillow Pet, and a train table set (James is still working on putting this together - he's got about 3 hours put into it already and it's only halfway done). Congratulations on being 3 Colin!

Birthday Party Madness

Sunday we finally celebrated Cecily's 1st birthday with a party. It was a gorgeous day, not too hot, not too cold and we got to enjoy dinner underneath the new gazebo (our Mother's Day/Father's Day/Anniversary gift to ourselves). Cecily seemed to have a grand time, although that's pretty much how she is every day. She absolutely dug into her smash cake and we finally had to call it good about 30 minutes in - I think she would have kept going until it was gone otherwise. We finally wised up this time and stripped her down to her diaper and took her out of her high chair and let her eat on the lawn chair so she could be deposited straight into the bath when she was done and the chair and patio could be hosed off. That's definitely one advantage to spring/summer birthdays and we'll definitely plan on doing the same for the new baby next year. Cecily's fave birthday gift was her baby stroller/walker; she motors all over the house with it. So cute! Our baby girl is getting so big!!
